Tracking and Understanding Federal Research Sharing Policies

With the implementation of US federal agency adherence to the 2002 OSTP Memo: Ensuring Free, Immediate, and Equitable Access to Federally Funded Research, researchers and private funders alike may be seeking to understand how these changes have been implemented in varying agencies. Our partners at SPARC have created two resources to track both the Publication Sharing Policies and the Data Sharing Policies at federal agencies.

Similarly, the Authors Alliance published An Updated NIH and Publisher Guidance: What Authors Need to Know about NIH’s Public Access Policy specific to the NIH’s publication sharing policies that took effect on July 1, 2025.
