Michael J. Fox Foundation Joins ORFG
The Open Research Funders Group (ORFG) is pleased to welcome The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) as its newest contributing member. ORFG brings together private and non-governmental research funders committed to strengthening the research ecosystem through open outputs, practices, and behaviors. This collaboration is central to advancing the open ecosystem by allowing for policy improvements and alignment, adoption of open behaviors, and coordination of open projects and efforts.
“We’re excited to welcome MJFF to ORFG’s community of funders working to strengthen open science practices across the research ecosystem,” said Emily Ford, ORFG Director. “Their commitment to transparency and broad sharing of research outputs aligns closely with our shared goals.”
“Open research has long been central to MJFF’s approach to accelerating Parkinson’s research,” said Josh Gottesman, Program Lead, Open Science at The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. “Our recently revised open science policy builds on that longstanding commitment by strengthening how research outputs are shared and reused. We’re excited to join ORFG and collaborate with other research funders working to advance transparency, research integrity and open science across the broader research ecosystem.”
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is the world’s largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson’s research, having funded $2.5 billion in research to date. Building on its longstanding commitment to open research, the Foundation recently expanded and formalized its open science policy to strengthen transparency, collaboration and the broad sharing of research outputs.
As an ORFG member, The Michael J. Fox Foundation joins ORFG in its active efforts to extend its influence in the open ecosystem, including but not limited to examining funder policies and making recommendations for funder policy improvements through its 2026 Funder Policy Landscape Analysis and Recommendations, development of funder resources to support funder policy implementations and workflows, collaborative efforts with coalitions across the globe working to improve open funding metadata, and more.
